TigerTurf facility at Mill Park up and running

17/04/2009
Whittlesea Mayor, Cr Mary Lalios said 'this is a fantastic facility for our City and it allows for Australian Rules Football, Soccer and Cricket clubs to have access to alternative training facilities all year round on a wonderful all weather surface that requires no water.
Work has completed on the 22,500m2 TigerTurf synthetic oval at Mill Park Secondary College, located north of Melbourne.

While other clubs are struggling to find grounds in good enough condition to play on, Mill Park Secondary College and the City of Whittlesea will reap the benefits of the new facility.

The oval incorporates line marking for Footy and Soccer with a cricket pitch in the centre and will be utilised by the College during the day and managed by the City of Whittesea outside College hours.

The TigerTurf surface will provide a constant playing surface, without the risk of injuries and of course the need for water and is available for play no matter what the weather.

'The site was challenging as it contained highly active uncontrolled fill tipped at the site.  Using tried and tested methods the base was stabilised, monitored and checked before proceeding says Don Vary, TigerTurf's Manager of Design & Estimation.

The project was jointly funded by Council, and the Victorian State Goverment departments of Education and Sport and Recreation Victoria.
