ClayTurf serves up an Ace

When the existing 4 red clay courts at Greensborough Tennis Club in the northern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria needed upgrading, Banyule City Council choose TigerTurf’s ClayTurf.  It was the perfect solution, given the current drought conditions, as ClayTurf does not require water but performs as a natural clay court.

Former Australian tennis great, and the winner of the 1976 Mens Australian Open Mark Edmondson, worked with TigerTurf New Zealand and Australia on the research and development of the clay courts.  ‘As President of a court installation company in Australia, I worked closely with TigerTurf to develop ClayTurf.  For years I have been convinced that it is possible to build a clay type surface using a carpet base.  I am extremely proud of what we have achieved’ Edmondson said.

ClayTurf was developed to provide a high performance, cost effective low maintenance surface that plays like clay, without the need for water.  ClayTurf allows players to train and develop their game with a higher and slower ball bounce to enable them to compete on an international stage.

Australian Veterans Tennis representative and club coach Michael Collins, commented ‘The conversion of our 4 courts was a large job, we recognised this and chose to do thorough research.  We flew to New Zealand with Damien La Rosa of TigerTurf to analyse their ClayTurf surface.  I have played on all of TigerTurf’s competitors clay products on the market; however, nothing came close to TigerTurf’s ClayTurf surface.  TigerTurf have created a product that has the same playing characteristics as our previous red porous courts and very similar to European clay courts.   Our members love the courts, we are extremely happy with the work of TigerTurf and with the significant savings in annual maintenance costs’.
