Hawker Football Centre roars into the 21st Century with TigerTurf

ACT Minister of Sport, Mr Andrew Barr, officially opened the redeveloped Hawker Football Centre on Friday, 31st July.
The natural playing field has been replaced with TigerTurf Soccer Real, an international standard synthetic surface.
Andrew said it was exciting to start the process of drought proofing Canberra.
'We recognise we do have challenges that we face in the longer term to drought proof our facilities and this is a very practical example of how we can achieve a positive outcome, a fantastic world class facility that isn't drawing on our water supply' he said.
The first official fixture was hosted with Canberra City taking on Belconnen United.
TigerTurf Soccer Real produces a pitch that performs like a freshly watered, high quality national turf, without the need for water. Players skills and enjoyment are enhanced as the surface is more consistant and safe.
The installation was certified to FIFA 2 Star for the period 2nd November 2009 to 1st November 2010. The client choose not to retest the facility to 2 Star so subsequently downscaled to a FIFA 1 Star until 1st November 2012.
