Knox Regional Football Centre making progress
17/05/2011Football Federation Victoria
FFV President Nick Monteleone and Knox Mayor Councillor Sue McMillan recently visited the Knox Regional Football Centre for an inspection of building progress at-the-state of the art football facility which is due to open midyear.
Council Project Manager Pat Meehan also guided Knox CEO Graeme Emonson and FFV CEO Mark Rendell, around the pavilion, full-size community pitch and nine five a-side pitches.
With the pavilion now complete, and the playing fields nearing completion, Nick Monteleone was highly impressed with the quality of the facility.
“The pavilion is absolutely first class, not only for the players, but also for the referees, our catering contractor and of course, our spectators,” Mr Monteleone said.
The visit gave Mr. Monteleone a chance to not only tour the facility for the first time, but to discuss the importance of the facility for the community with Knox Mayor, Cr Sue McMillan.
FFV Regional Centre Manager Chris Hain said it is important that the facility will provide genuine access to all members of the Knox community through a priority booking system for local clubs.
“The focus will be on participation opportunities for men, women, boys and girls of all ages,” he said.
The facility features a full-sized synthetic pitch, along with nine five a-side pitches. It will be a real asset to local clubs, schools and the wider community who enjoy playing the world game.
“We’re particularly enthusiastic about introducing a new form of the game, called Football Fives,” Mr Hain said.
We will be setting up recreational leagues which will allow friends to form 5-a-side teams and play in a fun atmosphere every night of the week.”
On completion, the Knox Regional Football Centre will be available seven days a week to clubs, schools and the general public.
The Centre will be operated by FFV under a lease from the Knox City Council.
Clubs will be notified when pitch bookings open.
